Gurumahan, in the 29th velvi discourse, insists to 'Live with Moderation: The Art of Balanced Living'.When we live with the right measure in everything, we can experience abundance, happiness, and good health.“Ask, and it will be given to you.” But where should you ask? Where should you go to ask?If the State Bank offers a loan, will you get it if you ask for one at ICICI Bank? No. You must approach the right place to receive what you seek.“Seek, and you will find.” What you are searching for is hidden within you. Once you discover and attain that inner treasure, everything will fall into place. Will everything really become all right? Who is responsible for making that happen? We are responsible. No one else. Some people say, “My mother is not right, so my life is not right. My father is not right, so I cannot be right either.”No. When you set yourself right, everything around you will begin to fall into place. There is one thing that everyone seeks. What is it?We all want to live happily and prosperously. What must we do to achieve this? Do we have to perform intense penance? Is there another way? Some people say that penance is not possible in Kali Yuga and that devotion alone is enough. They believe that simply chanting the names of Rama or Govinda is sufficient. But let me tell you a simple way of living.Live with moderation, and you will live in prosperity and happiness. What does moderation mean?We use different measurements for distance, objects, liquids, and temperature. Similarly, there must be a measure for everything we do in life.As the Thirukkural says:“Nothing should exceed or fall short of its proper measure, for both lead to illness.”Moderation in Food, Sleep, and WorkLet us begin with food. What happens when you eat too much? You may suffer from indigestion and end up in the hospital. What happens when you eat too little? Your body will not have enough energy to function properly. So, neither excess nor deficiency is good. Eat in the right measure, and you can avoid many health problems. Now, consider sleep. If you sleep too much, you become lazy. If you work continuously without enough sleep, your body becomes overheated and your nerves may become weak. Therefore, sleep in moderation. The same applies to work. Do not overwork, but do not remain idle either. Work within reasonable limits. Eight hours of work is sufficient for most people. There is no need to exhaust yourself through excessive work and shorten your life.Moderation in Wealth and Physical PleasureEven our economic life needs balance. If you accumulate too much wealth, you may find it difficult to protect and manage it. If you have no money, you may struggle to meet your basic needs. Therefore, maintain balance in your finances. We need moderation in:- Eating- Sleeping- Working- Earning and managing money- Physical pleasures- Spiritual practices and meditationEven yoga must be practised in moderation. Some people push their bodies excessively because they want to become yoga champions. Through extreme Hatha Yoga practices, they may strain their bodies so much that they eventually struggle even to sit comfortably.Do not practise yoga excessively. Give it the right amount of time.Similarly, when you visit a temple, you do not have to sit there for hours. Spend some time in prayer, offer your worship, and then return to your responsibilities. When you live with moderation, you will live with abundance.Moderation in Emotions and RelationshipsNow, let us consider our emotions. Is anger necessary? Yes, anger may sometimes be necessary.Imagine a business owner who never gets angry. If the employees realise that their employer never questions them, they may start misusing that freedom and taking things from the workplace. So, anger has its place. Even in a family, parents and spouses may sometimes need to express displeasure to correct a situation. But anger must have limits. It should never become uncontrollable. What about desire? Is it necessary? Yes, but that too must have limits. What about the love we show our children? Love them wholeheartedly, but maintain balance in attachment.Sometimes, excessive attachment makes us emotionally disturbed. A single phone call from a loved one can upset us so much that we lose our concentration and stop doing our work for the rest of the day.Love is necessary, but we must not become emotionally dependent.Remember:Anything in excess, even nectar, becomes poison. We may find it easy to talk and write about moderation. But how many of us actually practise it in our daily lives? That is why I am explaining how to bring moderation into every aspect of life.Keep Your Anger Within LimitsThere is a saying that someone's anger rises above their nose.We may say, "My husband is a very loving person, but when he gets angry, there is no limit to it."Even anger must have a limit. It should not cross the tip of your nose! This is why the ancient Siddhas emphasised focusing on the tip of the nose.Thirumoolar says:“நாட்டமிரண்டும் நடு…
