A Hat on a Hat (Romans 13:1-8)
From Salem Presbyterian Church · 31:33
Show by Salem Presbyterian (Winston-Salem, NC)
“A hat on a hat” is two good ideas that end up muddling the goodness of each. Churches often feel the pull to be like a hospital, a nonprofit, or a legal system. In Romans 13, Paul calls Christians to be good citizens who pay what they owe and love their neighbors, but he never asks the church to fix everything. A good hospital heals a body, a good court restrains a wrong, and a good school educates a mind, but none of them can attack the root problem: sin. In this sermon on Romans 13, Austin Pfeiffer looks at our core value that Salem Pres is a unique community whose guild is the church and whose craft is the Gospel. SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS 1. Deep down, do you believe you can fix sin on your own? If so, what in Romans 13 and this sermon challenges that belief? 2. Think about and discuss places where only Jesus, no other institution or plan, can get to the root of our problems. 3. As a small group might you consider praying for hospitals, schools, workplaces, and the church based on Romans 13 as you end your time together?
