Godzilla (1998)
From JaZ Make a Podcast · 53:33
Show by John and Zac
For the very first Cabin Cast, Zac and John drive two hours into the woods, set up the mics in an actual cabin, and fire up Roland Emmerich's Matthew Broderick-led monster movie to find out why it landed with such a thud. The first hour is classic Emmerich: big, dumb, glorious destruction in New York City. Then the movie keeps going for another hour and a half. They dig into how Godzilla gradually becomes a Jurassic Park remake with a baby-Godzilla velociraptor chase, why the film keeps telling you Dr. Nick Tatopoulos (the worm guy from Chernobyl) is irresistibly handsome, and how a mayor of New York who looks suspiciously like Roger Ebert ends up running a military operation. Plus: the American military firing missiles into occupied apartment buildings, a live news broadcast that is somehow the plan, the Godzilla-vs-Aliens-vs-Independence Day DNA, and the Zac-and-John fantasy edit that gets this thing down to a tight, Brooklyn Bridge-focused roller coaster. Dumb action movies are great. This one just isn't. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
