Panel 1 – Local Tourism Experience | 5th IPBN Annual Tourism ConferenceWhat does it really take to create a local tourism experience that visitors value and the people behind it can sustain?At the 5th edition of the IPBN Annual Tourism Conference, held on 22 October 2026 at WELL Vale do Lobo, Panel 1 explored how destinations and businesses could move beyond simply attracting visitors to create experiences that were distinctive, high-quality, locally connected, and commercially sustainable.Moderated by Sharon Farrell, IPBN Board Member, the discussion brought together three perspectives from across the tourism and hospitality sectors: Jonnie Pratt, Head Chef and Partner at Restaurante Tribulum; Gerry Fagan, Co-founder of NOOVA World; and Hernâni Estêvão, General Manager of Vale do Lobo Golf & Beach Resort.The panel explored how local food, hospitality, destination development, and immersive technology could shape the visitor experience. Jonnie shared his perspective on the importance of fresh, locally sourced ingredients and supporting regional producers; Gerry discussed how innovation and immersive experiences could create new opportunities for destinations; and Hernâni examined the operational, people-focused, and commercial considerations involved in delivering quality experiences at scale.Together, the speakers considered what authenticity really means in tourism, how businesses can balance innovation with a strong sense of place, and how the industry can create lasting value for visitors, local communities, producers, and the businesses that sustain the destination.The conversation highlighted an important point: successful tourism experiences require more than compelling marketing. They depend on investment, skilled people, strong local partnerships, and a commitment to making tourism work for everyone involved.
