A child in Lewis County, located in rural northern New York, has passed away following a measles infection. State authorities announced the death on Monday. Governor Kathy Hochul said it was New York’s first fatality linked to measles in 30 years. She connected the death to the federal administration's position on vaccination, saying Washington was undermining progress in disease prevention. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed three deaths linked to measles in the United States this year. Health authorities in Pennsylvania have reported six such fatalities. By late October, the CDC had tallied 4,588 measles cases across the country in 2026, more than twice the number from 2025. On that same day, Pennsylvania reported 1,338 cases. In early October, Hochul issued a disaster emergency declaration because of measles cases in nearby states and rural regions of New York. The directive broadened the group of people authorized to administer measles vaccines to include paramedics and midwives, and permitted nurses, as well as physicians, to order testing. https://wallstreetturkish.com/en/new-york-child-dies-from-measles-in-states-first-fatal-case-in-30-years-31280
