Disney Vacation Club: Welcome Home… Now Pay Your Dues
From The Worst: Beyond the Magic · 57:52
Show by Pete Morrison and Jamie McMahon
Send us Fan MailDisney Vacation Club sounds like a cheat code for deluxe Disney trips until you look at the bill and realize Mickey wants his dues every year. We’re two actual DVC owners who love the program and still side-eye it, so we’re breaking down what DVC really is: a points-based timeshare with home resorts, strict rules, and just enough perks to keep you saying “Welcome Home” while you do the math. We walk through the DVC points system in plain English, including the 11-month vs 7-month booking windows, banking and borrowing points, and why borrowing can feel like living one vacation ahead of yourself. We also talk about the real costs that matter long after the sales tour is over: upfront price per point, closing costs, financing, and annual dues that can rise over time. If you’re debating direct vs resale, we explain why resale can be a great value and why it can also come with restrictions that surprise people. Then we get into the fun stuff we actually use: bigger DVC villas with kitchens and laundry, member discounts on merchandise and some dining, Moonlight Magic events, and DVC lounges when Florida heat is trying to end you. We also give one piece of advice we want everyone to remember: using DVC points for a Disney Cruise is usually a terrible value, and renting points can be the smarter play. Finally, we rank our best and worst DVC resorts, from favorites like Polynesian and Riviera to the spots that left us cold. If you’ve ever wondered whether DVC is worth it, listen, share this with a Disney friend who needs the truth, and leave a review.
