Death

Death is certain. Its time is not ours to know.In this episode of Moments of Tafakkur, we reflect on how the Qur’an speaks about death, sleep, waking, and the specified term of a human life. What does it mean that Allah takes the anfus at death—and also during sleep? What are we being given when we open our eyes again? And how should the knowledge of death change the way we inhabit the time that is still here? The reflection moves through Qur’anic language, Prophetic teachings, the experience of feeling like a stranger or traveller in this world, and the questions raised by Albert Camus’ The Stranger. Revelation, scholarship, literature, and personal reflection are kept distinct throughout. This is not an attempt to predict death, romanticise it, or force certainty beyond what has been revealed. It is an invitation to look honestly at limited time and ask:What is still possible while I am here?If you woke up today, the door has not closed. You can pray. Repent. Give. Learn. Repair something. Ask forgiveness. Leave what you know is wrong. Begin something good that you have been postponing. We do not know how much time remains. But now exists.Spoiler note: This episode includes a brief discussion of Albert Camus’ The Stranger, including major plot points and its ending.Selected references discussed: Qur’an 39:42, 6:60, 31:34, and 63:10–11; Sahih al-Bukhari 6416; and Sunan Ibn Majah 4236.Moments of Tafakkur is an AUCOSMOS podcast.
