‘Slow Horses’, Disowned Parts, and the Narcissist Trap Rebel Therapy Podcast In this Rebel Culture segment of Rebel Therapy Podcast we use ‘Slow Horses’ and the dynamic between cynical Jackson Lamb and earnest River Cartwright to explore Gestalt therapy concepts of polarities and disowned parts. We explain how traits exist on a continuum and how pushing away qualities - like narcissistic traits after growing up with a narcissistic parent - can create imbalance, weaker boundaries, and higher tolerance for unhealthy dynamics. We debate why people get “locked” into narcissistic relationships: Katie suggests an externalized, hollow “completion” through the other person’s disowned trait, while Michelle argues it worsens over time because each person keeps trying to get unmet needs from someone who won’t provide them, fuelled by familiar patterns and fear of loneliness. We conclude with examples of integrating selfishness and expressing annoyance to set healthier limits. #RebelCulture #RebelTherapyPodcast #slowhorses #narcissism 00:00 Rebel Culture: Polarities and Narcissism...Locked in Relationship, ft.
