Researchers developed Hetairos, an advanced artificial intelligence algorithm designed to classify central nervous system tumor methylation subtypes directly from digital hematoxylin and eosin histology slides. By analyzing whole-slide images alongside patient age and anatomical location, the model predicts 102 distinct tumor subtypes to bypass the time and resource constraints typically required for traditional molecular testing. Validated across multiple international cohorts comprising thousands of patient samples, Hetairos demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy and significantly outperformed human neuropathologists in side-by-side comparisons. Furthermore, the system successfully identified ambiguous cases and reduced diagnostic turnaround times from weeks to minutes, highlighting its potential to accelerate clinical workflows and improve decision-making in neuro-oncology.References:Jin D, Shmatko A, Patel A, et al.
