- When God Doesn't Come Through For You
Have you ever done everything you knew to do, and watched life get harder anyway? Most of us are not asking for much. We are not asking for a perfect life, just one that goes reasonably well. We pray, we show up, we try to be patient, we try to trust God. So when we keep doing our part and nothing…
- When Your Heart's Not in It (But He Is)
What if the reason God refuses to give up on you has nothing to do with how well you are doing, and everything to do with whose you are? Most of us know what it is to hear God's call and hesitate. We drag our feet. We hold back. Not because we do not understand what he is asking, but because we…
- Send Someone Else
Have you ever been certain that someone else would be better for the very thing God has put in front of you? Most of us have a list ready. We are not gifted enough. We do not know enough. We can name ten people who would do it better without even thinking. And if our reasons sound reasonable…
- This Wasn't the Plan
What if the life you have built is not the same as the life God is calling you to live? Most of us want the good life, and if we are people of faith, we believe God has something to do with it. But there are no burning bushes for us. So we quietly start listening to the loudest voice in the room…
- When the Good Life is Out of Reach
What do you do when the life you hoped for is no longer possible? Sooner or later, every one of us confronts the distance between the life we hoped for and the life we are actually living. Sometimes it arrives in one devastating moment. Sometimes it is years of quiet disappointment. And when the…
- When God Gets Gone
What happens to your hope when God seems to have gone quiet? That is the question underneath this week's message from Exodus 1:1-21. Pastor Rob walked us into a chapter that begins in a good place and ends in the dark. Jacob's family has grown into a people, fruitful and multiplying just as God…
- Redeeming the Smell of Shame
What do you think God feels about you the moment you fail him? Not in the abstract but in the actual moment you know you've let him down? That's the question Pastor Rob opened with this week, walking through John 21:1–19, the story of Jesus meeting Peter on the shore after Peter's greatest…
- Is This All There Is?
"Is that it?" That's the question death asks all of us when a friend is gone, when a marriage ends, when the diagnosis comes back the way you feared. If Jesus stayed in the tomb, that question would only have one honest answer: yes, that's it, and there's nothing after. But the tomb is empty. In…
- The Cross of Christ
Most of us are trying to fix something — a relationship, a habit, a body, a version of ourselves we can't quite get right. This week's message asks a harder question: what if what's wrong with you was never a fixing problem in the first place? In this week's message from Mark 15:21–41, Pastor Rob…
- Perfectly Unlikable
There's a particular kind of dread that comes with being truly seen. Most of us spend enormous energy making sure that never happens. This week's message asks what happens when someone sees absolutely everything about you and loves you anyway. In this week's message from Mark 15:1–20, Pastor Rob…
- When Shame Breaks You
There are things about ourselves we're absolutely certain we would never do until the moment we're doing them. That's the uncomfortable mirror this week's passage holds up. It's also where the deepest grace of the gospel shows up. In this week's message from Mark 14:66–72, Pastor Rob continues our…
- God on Trial
Most of us have never once said it out loud, but we've all done it: quietly put God on trial in our hearts. Weighed the evidence, reached a verdict, and decided exactly what kind of God he's turned out to be. In this week's message from Mark 14:53–65, Pastor Rob follows Jesus from the garden of…
- Seeing Ourselves in Judas
Betrayal only happens between people who've let each other in. You can be disappointed by a stranger, wounded by an enemy, insulted by an acquaintance — but you can't be betrayed by them. Betrayal requires closeness. That's what makes this week's passage so hard to read, and so hard to look away…
- Weaker Than We Think
Most of us walk through life quietly convinced that we have what it takes — enough grit, enough good intentions, enough willpower — to make it through whatever comes. Until the test isn't multiple choice anymore, and we find out how little of that confidence was ever true. In this week's message…
- When the Whole Story Gets Personal
There's a room in this week's passage where everything else stops. Jerusalem is packed with pilgrims, lambs are being sacrificed across the city, and in the middle of all that noise, Mark's Gospel zooms in on one small upper room — one table, one loaf, one cup, thirteen men. And in that room, a…
- The Danger of Comfortable Indifference
In this week's message from Mark 14:1–11, Pastor Rob steps into the moment things finally boil over. Two days before Passover, the chief priests and scribes are plotting to kill Jesus. At a dinner in Bethany, a woman breaks open an alabaster flask of costly perfume and pours it over his head, an…
- Glory that Reorients
Every one of us is chasing something we'd call the good life. Full. Secure. Meaningful. Lasting. We may not use those words, but we're building toward it every day — and if you scratch beneath that vision, you'll find the same thing underneath it every time: ourselves at the center. In this week's…
- When Everything Falls Apart
Most of us have a plan for our lives. And most of us, at some point, have watched that plan quietly fall apart. In this week's message from Mark 13:1–23, Pastor Rob continues through the Olivet Discourse — Jesus' longest teaching section in the Gospel of Mark — and arrives at something deeply…
- When Our World Begins to Shake
There is a quiet illusion most of us carry through daily life, the belief that if we plan carefully enough, invest wisely enough, and stay intentional enough, we can keep things stable. That the life we are building is mostly under our control. Then something shakes. In this week's message from…
- Knowing and Loving the King
There is a difference between knowing about someone and truly knowing them. It is the difference between reading a biography and sitting across the table from a friend. And according to Jesus, that difference is everything. In this week's message from Mark 12:28–44, Pastor Rob Hamby opens in the…
- The Center of All Human Life
There's a question most of us rarely stop long enough to ask: What is most important? What is life actually for? In this week's sermon from Mark 12:28–34, we meet a scribe who does something quietly remarkable — he walks through a crowd of religious leaders asking trap questions and political…
- Too Close for Comfort
"He is not God of the dead but of the living." — Mark 12:27 There's a question running beneath the surface of this Sunday's passage that's worth sitting with: Why did Jesus disrupt the religious establishment so completely and why does he so rarely disrupt us? In Mark 12:13–27, the Pharisees…
- The Ruin of What Was Given
There’s a difference between knowing who God is and truly knowing Him. In Mark 12, Jesus tells the parable of the vineyard to reveal something difficult but deeply important: we often take the gifts, opportunities, relationships, and lives God has entrusted to us and begin treating them as if they…
- What Jesus Looks For
Our lives can look very full. All this activity, all this green foliage. And yet the thing that matters most is simply not there. In this week's message from Mark 11, Pastor Rob Hamby gets honest about the ways we organize our lives around ourselves, and what Jesus does when he walks up close and…
- Receiving Jesus on Our Terms
In this week’s sermon from Mark 11:1–11, we looked at the moment Jesus enters Jerusalem and is welcomed as king, yet not in the way people expected. The crowd celebrates, but beneath it is a deeper tension as they project their own hopes onto him. It was a reminder of how often I do the same…
