[PREVIEW] Now Rest Beneath Night's Shadow

Some of my favorite hymns are written by a pastor born in 1607 Germany: Johann Gerhardt. His ministry was during the 30 Years War in Europe and he experienced a mass amount of death and loss in his lifetime, sometimes conducting several funerals in one day. The Lord gave him a beautiful faith to cling not to what his eyes saw, but to what his faith knew. His prayers are mine in these hymns and I'm humbled to have such beautiful words with which to approach God's throne of Grace. The original melody, however, was from a gentleman who probably wrote it before the year 1500- its an old tune! I by no means think my melody is better, but I did put this hymn to a new melody. The purpose was to take these meditative words and make them lyrical and lilting for the rocking chair or by the bedside, rather than a tune suited for congregational singing. I hope you enjoy this lullaby! I recorded this on uke, but I do prefer to play it on piano! I'll make sure to record that as well.
