Why? : Why Are We So Unwelcoming? - 1 Cor. 10:16-17

Communion and who should receive it is one of the most complicated and controversial conversations in the church today. In our church body, it's a very complicated issue. We think that not allowing people to come to communion is unwelcoming, unfriendly, and unfaithful. If it's a gift of God to all, shouldn't we be giving it to all people? The meal of the Lord's Supper, is for the church. It's for the body of Christ. Even more than that, it's for those who share our confession of faith, and are a part of that same body. It's not that we want to be inhospitable; it's that we value the Gospel and it's clarity, and we value our confession of faith as well as others. We don't want to be unwelcoming, we want to share the truth about who Jesus is! We keep a close table, out of a love for our neighbor, love for the Gospel, and love for Jesus and his promises.
