Marriage, Sacrifice, and Submission
From Fr. Miguel’s Shrine Homilies · 00:13:27
Show by Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word
"Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ." In this homily, Fr. Miguel explores St. Paul's challenging teaching on submission, obedience, and family life, particularly his words to husbands and wives. He explains why this teaching must never be used as an excuse for domination or control, but must be understood through the example of Jesus Christ, whose love for His Church was so complete that He willingly laid down His life for her. Husbands are called to love, honor, and respect their wives with that same sacrificial love, while all Christians are called to put aside pride, ego, and the desire to control others. Reflecting on Christ's obedience to Mary and Joseph, His submission to earthly authority, and ultimately His surrender on the Cross, Fr. Miguel reminds us that true submission is not weakness but a path to holiness. Drawing on Mother Angelica's teaching about the importance of free will, he challenges us to recognize that the struggle to surrender our will is ultimately a struggle to become more like Christ. The way to heaven requires us to put aside our pride and learn to love and serve as Jesus did.
